Visiting the Abbey/Retreats

Anyone is welcome to visit our Abbey during the day and to join us in our daily praise of God. As contemplative Benedictine nuns, we pray the full Divine Office, which consists of seven prayer services held throughout the day. All of our prayer services, as well as daily Mass, are open to the public, and guests are welcome to participate by singing the psalms with us. Click here to view the Liturgy Schedule.

We accept reservations for individual overnight retreats only, as we are not able to host groups for overnight retreats.  However, groups are welcome to make reservations for day retreats. We are not able to provide food service, so we kindly ask that all guests bring their own food. Please call or email us (aswretreats@gmail.com) to make a reservation or for more information.

Women who are discerning their vocation with us and would like to come on retreat, please contact our Vocation Director at walburgavocations@gmail.com, as your accommodations will differ from other retreatants.

What can you do as a visitor to our Abbey?

  • Our Church is open to the public for anyone who wishes to pray in it. You are also welcome to join the Sisters in praying the Divine Office throughout the day.
  • Our Gift Shop is open Monday through Saturday: 9:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-4:30 p.m., and briefly on Sunday after our 8:00 a.m. Mass.
  • Parts of our land are open to the public for those who wish to enjoy the beauty. A popular walk is our “Way of the Cross,” which is a short trail that goes up a hill overlooking our entire valley. You will see a trail of crosses to your left shortly after you turn onto our road from the highway.

Directions

We are located in Virginia Dale, a very small “town” (it’s technically an unincorporated community) on the west side of Hwy 287, approximately 35 miles north of Fort Collins, Colorado and approximately 30 miles south of Laramie, Wyoming.

From the south, a green highway sign just past Virginia Dale will alert you to the approaching left turn. Be aware that turning onto our property from the highway can be dangerous because there is no traffic light or stop sign. Be not afraid to pass up the entrance and turn around so you do not have to cross oncoming vehicles.

There is no public transportation to the Abbey. If traveling by air, fly to Denver International Airport. We recommend renting a car for the two-hour drive to the Abbey. Airport shuttle service is available to Fort Collins, but the Abbey is not able to provide pick-up service from any of the drop-off points.
