Friday, March 31- Sunday, April 2, 2017
The Joy and Peace of Rosary Making
Leaders: Sr. Maria Gabriel Pitpit, OSB and Sr. Elizabeth Baumgartner, OSB
Cost: $160 per person; cost includes accomodations, meals, program and materials

The Rosary has been called a kind of spiritual handicraft, since “telling the beads” occupies the hands as well as the mind and spirit. In this unique weekend program, participants will learn to make simple cord rosaries while also reflecting on the deeper meaning of devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, especially through the Rosary.

Wednesday, May 24 – Sunday, May 28, 2017
Gregorian Chant Workshop
Leader: Sr. Hildegard Dubnick, OSB
Cost: $300 per person

Are you intrigued by Gregorian Chant and curious to learn more about it? Are you drawn to chant, but a bit uncertain about how to sing it? Are you looking for a way to enliven your prayer life, personal or liturgical? The Benedictine Nuns of the Abbey of St. Walburga invite you to deepen your understanding of and appreciation for this powerful art form.

During this extended weekend retreat, we will explore the interrelationship of music, language, and prayer. Topics covered in the course of the retreat will include the history of chant and its liturgical functions. You will become acquainted with Gregorian notation and with the principles of bringing the music to life.

Participants needn’t be experienced singers or musicians, although familiarity with modern music notation will be helpful. Retreatants are invited to attend liturgies with the nuns, where the chant – both Latin and English – can be experienced in its natural setting of liturgical prayer. We will spend time actually experiencing the chants, and will encourage retreatants to explore ways to incorporate song into their own prayer lives.
With several days at our disposal, we hope to have time and opportunity to work intensively on a small number of chants, so that participants can become comfortable with a few pieces. There will be a lot of singing, but no one will be pushed out of his or her personal comfort zone.

There may also be an opportunity to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation (confession).

The program begins with registration Wednesday afternoon and concludes with breakfast Sunday morning. The fee of $300 includes private room for four nights, and meals from Wednesday supper through Sunday breakfast. Pre-registration and deposit of $50 (applicable toward total) are requested to secure your reservation.

Sister Hildegard Dubnickhas been singing Gregorian Chant since she entered our Abbey in 1987. She has been the Abbey's main organist since 1995.
