Types of Retreat Available
Individual Retreats
Days of Prayer: we offer space for one-day, non-directed individual days of prayer.
Private Retreats: the Abbey provides rooms for individual, private, non-directed retreats. Ordinarily, retreatants may check in any time between Tuesday and Saturday. We are normally closed from Sunday afternoon through Monday.
Group Retreats
Abbey-Hosted Retreats: we offer the facilities described below to groups of up to twenty who wish to organize their own retreat. Groups may bring their own retreat leader or request a Sister to lead the retreat.
Abbey-Sponsored Retreats: we offer occasional weekend or day retreats conducted by one of the nuns of the Abbey.
Facilities
The Retreat House offers single rooms with shared baths for individuals who wish to make a private, non-directed retreat for one to five days. All bedding, including sheets, is supplied. Towels are also provided.
We will offer full meal service for all retreatants, individual and groups. Meal service includes continental breakfast and two full meals daily. On Sunday breakfast is available until 11:00 am. The kitchen is generally closed after Sunday breakfast and all day Monday.
A substantial portion of our beautiful valley is available for the enjoyment of our guests. Apart from the Abbey road, much of the terrain is rugged, so please bring suitable outdoor clothing and strong shoes or hiking boots if you plan to do a lot of walking and climbing.
The Retreat House is located about ¾ of a mile from the main Abbey building. All our guests are welcome to pray in the main Abbey chapel at any time of day and to join the Abbey community for Eucharist and the singing of the Divine Office daily if you wish. Guests can walk or drive between the Retreat House and the Abbey.
The Abbey Gift Shop is open at posted times and by appointment.
Please note that the Retreat House is a simple facility designed to offer a time of quiet withdrawal from the busy noise of the ordinary home and work world. Individual rooms are not equipped with telephones or modem connections. The single telephone line that serves the Retreat House cannot be used to download e-mail. Television and radio reception are extremely poor in the valley, and cell phones and pagers will not work here. Retreatants are asked to use headsets if they wish to listen to tapes.
