To get here from there...
When you open this page, the map will look like the road to nowhere because Virginia Dale is so far from town -- about halfwaybetween Fort Collins, Colorado (apx. 35 miles) and Laramie, Wyoming (apx. 30 miles). The red cross marks the "town" of Virginia Dale, which consists of a closed cafe and post office. The Abbey is about half a mile north of that point. Click on the map and zoom out to #8 on the scale to the right of the map. If you don't zoom out quite far enough... say you only venture as far as #4...well, see where Dale Creek crosses Deadman Creek? Go a bit farther north, where Dale Creek and another unnamed creek (really, Fish Creek) run together. There! That's it! That's in the middle of our pasture! Now you know exactly where we are!
Driving Instructions
(Homegrown, non-interactive, lie still so you can read 'em instructions)
The Abbey can be reached only by car. There is no public transportation. We understand that the Overland Stage and the Pony Express used to go by here -- Virginia Dale began life as a stage stop on the Overland Trail -- but no one has seen 'em for awhile!
If you are driving north, take I-25 to Fort Collins. Exit at Highway 14 West (follow the directions for Laramie). Stay on Highway 14, heading west toward the mountains, till you reach College Avenue. Turn right on College. College is also Highway 287, so it will take you to our driveway. As you leave Fort Collins, follow the directions on the large sign that says "Highway 287 to Laramie". Someone, somewhere (maybe even the MapBlast directions) is telling people to get off 287 at 54g and go into Laporte. Don't do it. You can get here from there, but it takes you out of your way.
As you drive north, you will see a small white church standing alone in a field on your left. That's about half a mile from our gate, which will appear suddenly on your left as you come down the hill. A green and white Department of Transportation sign which says "Abbey" and points to the left will give you a little bit of warning to slow down and start looking. Our entrance is on the west side of 287 directly opposite mile marker 381.
If you are traveling south, take Highway 287 south out of Laramie. After you cross into Colorado, you'll see our entrance about 4 miles south of the state line, on your right. Again, a green and white Department of Transporation sign saying "Abbey" and pointing to the right will give you some warning.
There is a streetlight beside our sign, so you can see a bit of light if you arrive in the dark.
Airport Instructions:
Denver International Airport is about a two-hour drive from the Abbey. Cheyenne Airport is somewhat closer, but flights are less frequent and fares tend to be more expensive. The airport shuttle services will not bring passengers to the Abbey from either airport. We are unable to provide transportation from shuttle drop-off points in Fort Collins or elsewhere.
